Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900) was a prominent Irish poet and playwright. Resurrected in 2010, he is delighted to discover how things have changed for a gentleman such as himself:
A new dawn, a new century, a new set of materials (nylon!! polyester!!), a new wardrobe. But, alas, the same ignorance, the same hardened hearts, and the same armies of vultures and philistines to contend with. Much to my dismay, gay Paris is no longer the centre of world intellectual, artistic and aesthetic activity. That cup has passed back and forth between London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and God knows what other ghastly outposts since I first walked this earthly realm. My darling France has grown quiet in her old age. But this new world, with all of its apocalyptic urgency, is nothing if not exciting!
Life has changed so much. And so much for the better! This is especially true in the case of men with a penchant for a bit of 'Greek'. However, having had my own bones picked to pieces by the modern world, I would think it only fair that I might have a few bones to pick with you! Please join me as I dig (with velvet-gloved hands) into the modern world of bunburying, or what has (outrageously and erroneously) come to be termed 'gay culture'. Fun, frolics and a keen sense of ironic judgementalism will be our goals!
Yours,
Oscar.
Lady Gregory (1852 – 1932) was an Irish dramatist and folklorist. Together with W.B Yeats and others, she founded the Abbey Theatre and wrote numerous short works. Reanimated in 2010, she finds the motor car traffic in Gort insufferable.
William Butler Yeats (1865 - 1939) was an Irish poet and playwright. Alive once again in 2010, he is fascinated by the internet. So much so that we have recently had to change our internet policy to prevent him spending all day online, staring at pictures of Maud Gonne. He won the Nobel Prize for Literaure in 1923.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806 – 1859) is an engineer. He is best known for the construction of the Great Western Railway, as well as numerous steamships; including the first propeller-driven transatlantic ship. He also designed revoulutionary suspension bridges and tunnels. His designs revolutionanized transport and engineering. Resurrected in 2010, he marvels at such innovations as the aero-plane and spaceflight.
